139: The Son of the Godfather of Halloween – DON POST JR.

Don Post. Does that name bring back memories for some of you? Let’s go Skywalking through October with the man that put Halloween on the map – Don Post Jr! Don’s father, nick-named the Godfather of Halloween, started up Don Post Studios and together he and his son built up the company. They eventually acquired the license to make full head Star Wars masks and helmets back in 1977 and the rest is Halloween history. We could not BE more excited to share this interview with you, and Don Post, Jr. himself was just as excited. The memories he has to share bring tears to your eyes.

Inspiration: The Music of Star Wars Rebels is quickly becoming our most popular segment. This week we look at Kevin Kiner’s “Combining the Holocrons” track from Star Wars Rebels S3 E2: “The Holocrons of Fate”. Maul’s theme, a Holocron theme (?!) and the Devil’s tone!!

137: The Great ROGUE ONE Composer Debate

episode137square

Film music. It binds us, surrounds us and draws us all together as fans. So when composers get switched up on a film as high-profile as ROGUE ONE, we must discuss. On this episode we delve into the film music of both Alexandre Desplat and Michael Giacchino to determine which would make the better composer for ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY. We couldn’t do it alone, so Anthony Fox of MousePire joins us to offer some extra insight.

With STAR WARS REBELS, Season 3 premiering on September 24th, it’s time to look back at Kevin Kiner’s score for the incredible Season 2 finale, “Twilight of the Apprentice.” The chills, the thrills, the final 2 minutes – I NEED this soundtrack now! We also take you to the Season 2 Finale Q&A and play the relevant clips from Dave Filoni and Kevin Kiner talking about the music. If you want to hear more of that Q&A, head to Episode 115.

Also on this episode:

  • Monkees Day! It was the 50th Anniversary of the Monkees TV Series last week, and Richard and Sarah celebrated with some film location scouting, wedding crashing and a Monkees concert.

In true Disney fashion, Disney Channel PR and Lucasfilm put on a genuine Red Carpet bash at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, CA for the finale of Star Wars: Rebels, Season 2. In this episode, Richard and Sarah take you to the Red Carpet, inside the Main Theater with Q&A on “Twilight of the Apprentice” from cast and crew, and further to one-on-one interviews with Dave Filoni, Ashley Eckstein, Vanessa Marshall and Kevin Kiner.

*SPOILER ALERT* If you have NOT seen this finale – turn back now! Not only was the Q&A held after we all saw “Twilight of the Apprentice” together, but we also give our thoughts on spoiler-heavy moments. The Q&A was moderated by Amy Ratcliffe, and we heard from writer and creator Dave Filoni, creator Simon Kinberg, Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka Tano) and Taylor Gray (Ezra Bridger). Since we bring our recorder everywhere, we had a short roundtable with fans right after the screening.

FURTHER EXPLORATION: Check out Adventures By Daddy for a complete rundown of the Red Carpet, including pictures and our Periscope. Then head over to FanGIRL Blog to watch the complete Q&A in its entirety and read some of my thoughts on “Twilight of the Apprentice”.

COMING UP: In the coming weeks we will cover the music of “Twilight of the Republic”, so email us your thoughts on any aspect of the episode to share@skywalkingthroughneverland.com.
