About the Hosts

Kevin Toft

Anything that had to do with science and the future fascinated me as a young child.  Star Trek (TOS) and Space 1999 had my complete attention until my world was turned upside down by Star Wars!  The design of the space ships, the cities, the robots, the fictional worlds of writers such as Roddenberry and Lucas- it was all I could think about!  This began a journey of learning about artists like Syd Mead, Ron Cobb and Ralph McQuarrie that created the look and feel for these science fiction worlds. I had a great desire to draw them and build the model kits.

Continuing on my journey, I’ve held creative positions in advertising, stage crew and scenic painting with the Pageant of the Masters (in Laguna Beach, CA), video game production at Virgin Games and at Sony where I was a member of the launch team for the PlayStation.  Currently, I am a visual designer focusing on UIUX.

I have been fortunate to meet amazing people in the visual effects industry, including many of my heroes that have worked on major films with ILM (Industrial Light Magic).  I assisted on the set of the film Wild, Wild West, was a production assistant with Kiefer Sutherland’s, and Deadman’s Party, an Oingo Boingo tribute band.

As a fan of Science Fiction and an admirer of fantastic design, I collect all manners of art, models, and
books. I enjoy going to conventions, visiting with old friends, and making new ones! I am super grateful to Richard and Sarah Woloski for welcoming me into the amazing world of podcasting!

Ernie Moreno II – Artist

I was born into the glorious time of 8-bit video games and have video games in my blood. Watching the progression of video games from arcade to cartridge, cartridge to CD and CD to digital download has really shaped my view of the world. Not to mention shaped my life-long passion for art. As a kid I loved the covers to some of my favorite video games and with that became enchanted with the love of character design and illustration.

Starting my career at G4, my obsession with video games grew to an extraordinary level. During that time I honed my artistic talent into a passion for graphic design and motion graphics. Contributing my talents to Fresh Ink, Sessler Soapbox and Feedback I became engulfed with pop culture and geekdom. During this time I used my spare time to collect retro video game consoles, games and paraphernalia. Retro video game consoles are fascinating and discovering systems like the 3DO really opened my eyes to the industry as a whole. Seeing it progress and change within the span of 30 years makes collecting the different systems fun and educational.

Now, I’ve brought the same fascination for collecting and obsession with video games to Collectopolis! With my co-host Kevin Toft we explore the world of collecting and bring you the stories behind the treasures. We talk to the individuals behind the collection and bring you their most unique pieces and fascinating stories.
