Star Wars Day is coming! Have you made your plans yet? Let us help you with an Event & Merchandise Roundup for May the 4th! I know there are some camps that say Star Wars Day is really May 25th which is the date that the film opened in 1977, but I say let’s celebrate both. Heck, let’s just celebrate Star Wars all month (year) long! 2023 will be one for the journals since this has been the most active year in a long, long time. Read on for a list of our event and merchandise highlights.

Skywalking on TV!

Before we begin, allow me to plug an upcoming TV appearance. We are so excited that ABC7/KABC-TV here in Los Angeles contacted us to talk about fandom and what we are looking forward to in future with Star Wars films and TV. I hope they have a large timeslot carved out because we have lots to say.

Events:

Carrie Fisher will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She will be honored with the 2,754th star at 11:30am, 6840 Hollywood Boulevard near the El Capitan Theatre and Mark Hamill’s star.

Billie Lourd will accept on her mother’s behalf. The event will be streamed live exclusively at walkoffame.com 

Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite. Guests will experience special after-hours access to Disneyland Park with the purchase of a separate event admission ticket. Enjoy character meet-and-greets, themed menu selections and exciting entertainment—including March of the First Order featuring Captain Phasma. Plus, new merchandise and more! If you don’t already have a ticket, sorry, this event that takes place on May 2nd, 4th, 8th, and 11th are sold out. Look for plenty of coverage from Skywalking Through Neverland. 

The inaugural May The 4th Sci-Fi Film Festival. This event will be held on the Skellig Coast, Co. Kerry in Ireland (right by the Ahch-To filming location, aka Skywalker Island) and will host a huge variety of Star Wars and Sci-Fi related events. Festival runs from May 4th to the 6th.

The Academy of Motion Pictures May the 4th Celebration. Meet past Skywalking Through Neverland guests Howard Kazanjian (producer, Return of the Jedi) and Paul Hirsch (editor, Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back) as they will be signing their memoirs at The Academy of Motion Pictures from 5:00pm-7:00pm. However Star Wars themed activities will start at 1:30pm. A screening of Return of the Jedi begins at 7:30pm. Address 6067 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036

May the 4th Celebration

Join the Academy Museum for a Star Wars-inspired May the 4th Celebration! The fun-filled day includes a chance to meet and take photos with R2-D2 and participate in Star Wars-inspired hands-on activities for all ages.

May the 4th Be With You Weekend @Otherworld Theater. An action-packed lineup includes shows, Star Wars-themed improv performances, and films. Don’t miss Cris Macht’s documentary film, The Force Within Us, screened on Saturday May 6th at 1pmCT. Followed by a live recording of Machtails from the Cantina show.

Skywalking Star Wars Trivia Spectacular! Search your local libraries since many are holding Star Wars themed events. If you’re in the Los Angeles area, join us at the Signal Hill library for our Star Wars Trivia Spectacular. Teams compete in spirited rounds of trivia for prizes. Star Wars: Visions season 2. The nine new shorts from nine studios around the world are just as amazing as the first season (trust us, we’ve seen them). The animation studios include El Guiri (Spain), Cartoon Saloon (Ireland), Punkrobot (Chile), Aardman (United Kingdom), Studio Mir (South Korea) Studio La Cachette (France), 88 Pictures (India), D’art Shtajio (Japan), and Triggerfish (South Africa). D’Art Shtajio’s short was created in collaboration with Lucasfilm Ltd. (United States).

Young Jedi Adventures. Set during The High Republic era, the animated series follows Jedi younglings as they study the ways of the Force, explore the galaxy, help citizens and creatures in need, and learn valuable skills needed to become Jedi along the way. Also streaming on Disney Junior. You can view six of the shorts on the Disney YouTube channel.
