How “Ralph Breaks The Internet” Press Conference Turned into a Therapy Session

0

Ralph Breaks The Internet Press Conference was by far one of the most enjoyable press conferences I’ve ever attended. Cast and creators shared a ton of behind-the-scenes stories. Sarah Silverman (voice of Vanellope) and John C. Reilly (voice of Wreck-It Ralph) proved that they are very good friends and hilarious comedians in real life. Jack McBrayer (voice of Fix-It Felix) has incredible timing and his accent is to die for. Taraji P. Henson swears, but only to make a VERY good point.

The following cast and creators gathered in Beverly Hills on 11/3/18 for the Ralph Breaks the Internet Press Conference:

  • John C. Reilly (voice of “Ralph”)
  • Sarah Silverman (voice of “Vanellope”)
  • Taraji P. Henson (voice of “Yesss”)
  • Jack McBrayer (voice of “Felix”)
  • Director Rich Moore
  • Director Phil Johnston
  • Producer Clark Spencer
  • Co-Writer Pamela Ribon
  • Moderator: Dani Fernandez (She is depicted in the film! They used Dani’s persona as an internet personality to be…an internet personality!)

There are a few minor movie spoilers coming up, so if you don’t want to know ANYTHING about the film going in, wait until after you’ve seen it to read and watch past this point.

As Moderator, Dani Fernandez only asked a few questions before handing the mic over to the press. I even asked the directors a question relating to the animated depiction of the internet (that’s why the camera gets shaky at 12:50). But the best question comes at timestamp 16:15.

“What is your biggest insecurity?”

It was this question that started a break-out therapy session with Sarah Silverman, Taraji P. Henson and every person on that stage.

Think about it – do you know what it’s like to have a best friend? The comfort, the fun, the understanding – there’s really nothing else like it. That relationship takes years to develop, each year adding a layer of depth and security. Now imagine that person turning their back on you. This is the insecurity Ralph faces in RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET. His insecurity is the “bad guy”. That one astute member of the press asked each and every one of the cast and creators to name their biggest insecurity, and they did! From that point on, we were no longer at a press conference, we were at a therapy session!

I can’t write or transcribe the inflection of each individual, so I encourage you to watch the full Press Conference video embedded below. To zoom straight to the “insecurities” question, head to timestamp 16:15.

But the therapy session didn’t end there! Within the film Ralph Breaks The Internet, there is a moment where characters ask the all-important question:

What is the secret to being a good parent?

So again, a member of the press asked the entire panel to weigh in on this question. Head to timestamp 42:42 for answers that may surprise you. And if you have sensitive ears on or around you, be aware that Taraji P. Henson says the f-word in jest.

Now that you’re armed with the cast’s most sordid insecurities and how to be a good parent, you’re ready to go see Ralph Breaks The Internet with your whole family, in theaters this Thanksgiving, 11/21/18!
