Lego Star Wars Holiday Special

We’ve waited 42 years and it’s almost here! The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special follows up the 1978 classic (yes CLASSIC)! Disney+ will stream this 44 minute special on the original Star Wars Holiday Special release date of November 17th.

Instead of continuing on with the original Special’s storyline, this takes place right after the events in The Rise of Skywalker. The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special reunites Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewie, Rose and the droids for a joyous feast on Life Day. Rey sets off on a new adventure with BB-8 to gain a deeper knowledge of the Force. At a mysterious Jedi Temple, she is hurled into a cross-timeline adventure through beloved moments in Star Wars cinematic history, coming into contact with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan and other iconic heroes and villains from all nine Skywalker saga films. But will she make it back in time for the Life Day feast and learn the true meaning of holiday spirit?

LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special Trailer Breakdown and Screenshots

The trailer begins with Yoda citing a famous Christmas story with a Star Wars twist,

“T’Was the night before Life Day in a galaxy far, far away…”

Poe Dameron, wearing a  BB-8 ugly sweater, enters the decorated main hull of the Millennium Falcon carrying a turkey on a platter. Attending this holiday party we see Rey, Finn, Chewbacca, Lando, Rose, C-3PO, R2-D2, Maz Kanata, 2 Ewoks,  Zorri Bliss, Greedo, Jannah, 2 Jawas, Max Rebo, and ITCHY! Just no partridge or a pear tree.

Yoda continues,

“For Rey, adventure calls and she thought it would be fast. There she found a key to the galaxy’s past…”

Rey has found a key that unlocks a portal that brings her into scenes from the Star Wars films. But then the Emperor gets his hands on it and now wants, “less talky talky and more fighty fighty!”

We see many battles fought between Jedi, battles on speeding podracers, and a battle between Rey and Darth Vader while suspended in the air. However, their battle halts as they admire the cuteness of Baby Yoda down below.

“A time of joy this is. A time of friendship, of family.”

Finally dozens of characters dump out of the portal in front of a New Hope Luke Skywalker on the Tatooine homestead. Rey is surprised to see her future master and Darth Vader almost blows a secret as he sees Luke. “My son! I mean… my, these binary suns…” Thank goodness for the binary sunset in the distance. Luke takes it all in as he slurps down a small carton of blue milk.

The tag includes Greedo seeing the original and sequel version of Han Solo. “Oota Doota, Solos! Sequel Han says to classic Han, “Do you want to shoot first?” Classic Han, “After you.” They both fire together!

The trailer includes one of the best taglines ever seen on a Star Wars film or show,

“The Past Makes the Best Present!

Star Wars franchise stars reprising their roles include Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Billy Dee Williams (“Lando Calrissian”), Anthony Daniels (“C-3PO”), as well as “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” vets Matt Lanter (Anakin Skywalker), Tom Kane (Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn), James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan Kenobi), and Dee Bradley Baker (clone troopers). We can’t wait for November 17, 2020! In the meantime, feed your pop culture brain with more LEGO+Star Wars goodness.
